2025 Commonwealth Championships - Update

Dear Friends

Greetings from Melbourne,

Let me bring you up to date in relation to the Commonwealth Championships to be held in India next month.

On Sunday, 24th August, there will be the CWF Annual Congress, the Indian Weightlifting Federation Congress and the Opening Ceremony in the evening.

On Monday, 25th August to Saturday 30th August, the weightlifting event will be held. At this stage the sessions have not been finalized and they will not be finalized until the final entries come in on the 24th July.

We have 539 entries registered in the Preliminary Entries. At this point in time, we have no idea how many will pull out. We envisage something like 200 will pull out which still leaves 300 plus lifters taking part. On the other hand, if we don’t have too many pulling out, then we have a big problem ahead of us. We may have to have ‘C’ sessions in some categories, in addition to the ‘A’ and ‘B’ sessions.

We cannot extend the days of competition. Therefore we may have to have late evening sessions and early morning sessions.

40 International Technical Officials from 15 countries will officiate.

So far we have 40 countries entered to compete.

Please note: The closing date for the FINAL ENTRIES is July 24th at 6pm Brisbane time. The Member Federation must select the final list of lifters from their Preliminary Entries which were submitted on May 24th.

Maximum of 10 lifters (8 + 2 reserves) for male and maximum of 10 lifters for the female. (8 + 2 reserves)

At the Verification of final entries on August 10th the two reserves must be removed leaving you with a team of maximum 8 for women and maximum 8 for men. This goes also for Junior and Youth teams as well.

Also please note that once the final entries are in, we will be sending an invoice for USD$200 for entry and doping control fees per athlete. The entry fees and anti-doping fees must be paid by the 10th August.

Finally we have been informed from the Organising Committee that the following countries below have not yet sent any documentation including passports. Therefore I am asking every country to make sure that you send all documents required to the Indian Organising Committee in order for them to approach the Indian Government for assistance in relation to visas. So the countries below please do everything possible to send the information quickly.

Kindest regards,
Paul Coffa MBE - General Secretary
